The Department of Thoracic Surgery and Interventional Pulmonology provides comprehensive diagnosis and treatment of diseases affecting the organs of the chest, including the lungs, esophagus, mediastinum, and chest wall. Our goal is to provide high-quality medical care using advanced technologies and minimally invasive techniques.

1. Lung and Bronchial Surgery

• Surgical treatment of lung cancer, including pneumonectomy, bilobectomy, lobectomy, and segmentectomy
• Surgical treatment of metastatic lung disease, including pneumonectomy, bilobectomy, lobectomy, segmentectomy, and wedge (atypical) resection

5. Interventional Pulmonology

5.1. EBUS (Endobronchial Ultrasound)

Diagnostic EBUS

A minimally invasive diagnostic technique that enables visualization and assessment of lymph nodes and tumors using an ultrasound probe integrated into a bronchoscope. The method provides high diagnostic accuracy with minimal invasiveness.

5.2. EBUS-TBNA (Endobronchial Ultrasound-Guided Transbronchial Needle Aspiration)

EBUS-TBNA

Biopsy of lymph nodes and other lesions under endobronchial ultrasound guidance. This technique enables accurate tissue sampling without the need for open surgery.

5.3. Video Fiberoptic Bronchoscopy

• Diagnostic bronchoscopy is used to examine the airways and obtain tissue samples for biopsy.
• Therapeutic bronchoscopy is used for foreign-body removal, removal of endobronchial lesions, and control of airway bleeding.

5.4. Percutaneous Interventions of the Chest Organs Under Ultrasound and CT Guidance

Biopsy of Neoplasms

Image-guided biopsies performed under ultrasound or computed tomography (CT) guidance to obtain precise tissue samples for the diagnosis of lung and pleural diseases.

• Drainage of loculated pleural effusions and empyemas

5.5. Microwave Ablation of Malignant Tumors

Microwave Ablation (MWA)

A minimally invasive procedure that uses microwave energy as an alternative or complementary treatment for malignant tumors of the lungs and chest. The technique enables effective local tumor treatment while minimizing tissue damage.

5.6. Rigid Bronchoscopy

A technique used to perform complex therapeutic procedures, including removal of large endobronchial tumors, treatment of airway stenosis, and control of massive airway bleeding.

5.7. Airway Stenting and Bronchial Blockade

Airway Stenting

Placement of airway stents to maintain airway patency in cases of narrowing caused by tumors or scar tissue.

Bronchial Blockade

Placement of balloon or valve bronchial blockers to isolate an affected part of the lung and limit the spread of infectious or tumor-related processes.

6. Diagnosis and Medical Treatment of Respiratory Diseases

• Acute and chronic bronchitis
• Medical management of bronchial asthma
• Treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
• Pneumonia, including antibacterial and antiviral therapy
• Treatment of interstitial lung diseases, including immunosuppressive and anti-inflammatory therapy
• Treatment of sarcoidosis
• Pulmonary embolism and other respiratory conditions

Spirometry is also performed as part of the diagnostic assessment.
